A Joint Effort of Business, Labor, and Education
In Demand Scholars

Problem
- Washington high school students do not see their schooling as relevant to their employment futures.
- Washington industries do not have enough skilled applicants to fill their high-demand job openings.
Solution
- Executives from these industries visit high school classrooms to generate interest in industry occupations
and to explain the training requirements for entry into these fields.
- Senator Patty Murray and the Washington Workforce Association created the In Demand Scholarships, which are
awarded to encourage high school students to train for skilled careers in local targeted industries.
More Information
- Scholarships are awarded by the local Workforce Development Councils (WDCs).
